Our stay at the Bordons' in Wenatchee

On Saturday morning we drove to Wenatchee from Leavenworth to stay overnight with Joy & Gerry. We had a great visit; it's been way too long since we've seen them. They have the cutest little dog; she's a Bischon Frisee' (sp?). Her name is Missy and she is very well-behaved. She is in need of grooming and Joy is taking her this week but I thought she looked like a marshmallow all brushed out!*S*

They have had alot of work done to their house since we've been there and the color has changed. If I'm remembering correctly, it used to be tan. The backyard is really nice as well with a new deck and shed.

Worldmark at Leavenworth, WA

This is where we stayed in Leavenworth. They are really nice inside but look cabin-like outside to fit in with the mountains.

One view from the condos.

Just another scenic view

Looking from the corner of the living room into the kitchen.

Our trip to Leavenworth

We went to Leavenworth, WA last Thursday, June 26th, and stayed at the Worldmark resort there with Jim in his condo. Victoria and Steve stayed with Larry & Linda in their condo. The men golfed ALOT and the girls shopped on Friday most of the day. These photos were taken on Thursday evening while at dinner at Visconti's Italian Restaurant. The first photo, of course *S*, is of me & Kent.

Joy & Gerry

Joy and Gerry drove up to Leavenworth from Wenatchee (only about a 20 min drive) on Thursday evening for dinner and to visit a little.
It was a nice get-away. Leavenworth is a Bavarian-like town with every business done in the same architecture. I forgot to take my camera on Friday when we went shopping to get some photos of the stores.

Korean War Memorial

This was still at the Lincoln Memorial Stop. My Dad served in the Korean War and I don't know if he has ever seen this Memorial, but I thought it was the nicest one of them all.

It was hard to get a shot of all the bronze sculptures.

Each soldier's face represented all of the nationalities that participated in this War. The faces were so detailed.

Another angle. You can see we were there right after Memorial Day. The flowers were still there.

Kent and I in front of the Lincoln Memorial

I hope this one works. The earlier post only showed the "code" for the photo.

Our stop at the Lincoln Memorial

This is the building that the statue of Lincoln is in. I didn't get a good shot of Lincoln behind the columns of the building.

Kent and I in front of the statue.

We got another "tourist" to take a snapshot of all of us; the blur in the left corner is my editing out of the backside of some lady!LOL

I loved what it said above his head and wanted to capture that.

This is just another shot of the whole statue. It is massive! Where the statue is housed is a huge room. On the walls is engraved the Gettysburg Address as well as another one of his famous speeches. When I saw the Gettysburg Address, I was reminded of helping my kids memorize it for school!

Still Touring

This is actually the house where Lincoln died; I erred in my earlier post.

This was just riding through D.C. I believe this was the Georgetown area; very cool and urban.

I loved the architecture.

It was soooo green there. And when you sit on top of the bus, you have a few actual "brushes" with the trees. I believe that Brian and Dad got hit with a few limbs.

This is the famous cathedral ( I cannot for the life of me remember its name) but it is where Presidents have had their funerals. It is so big that I couldn't fit it all in one shot but I am not going to bore you with all the different angles that I took!

More of the Top of the Bus Tour

I had to get a shot of this street intersection. I've heard of these streets all of my life so it was kind of "momentus" for me!*s*

We chose not to get off at the White House; although now it's my one regret of the thing we didn't do. We just knew that we wouldn't be able to get any closer than the front fence; plus, we were running a little behind.

Another shot of the White House; it was alot smaller than i thought it would be.

This is where Abraham Lincoln was shot as he was watching a play. Cool to see this in person, but again, we didn't actually get off to see inside.

I believe this is the house he died in; just across the street from the Ford Theatre. That would have been another cool place to see inside. We just didn't have enough time to see it all.

Sightseeing in Washington D.C.

We(Kent, myself, Bryan and Robin) were getting into D.C. around lunch time and decided to stop at Five Guys. I thought it was pretty comparable to In and Out Burger(which by the way is going to be in Utah; I saw a billboard in Salt Lake!).

Bryan had a great idea for us to take a bus tour; one that we could get off and on at
different locations that we were interested in. It was called the Top of the Bus tour and we sat on top, riding through the streets of D.C. It was alot of fun!

We didin't get off at the Capitol but rode by it several times. This, obviously, was close up.

There were alot of parks and recreation areas throughout the city. I thought it was interesting to see people playing soccer, etc... so close to a national monument.

This is the Washington Monument. We didn't actually walk over to it. We did walk the waterway which actually was a good distance from the monument itself.

Very Frustrating

When we got home from our trip back East 2 weeks ago, I tried uploading tons of photos that I took while up in the Boston area and somehow I lost all but 1 of them!!! I would be devasted except that we did take videos but still...... There are quite a few on my card that come up not compatible. If anyone reading this knows how to get them to be compatible, please let me know. I'll post what I have from our time in Virginia and Washington D.C.

The last part of our Memorial Day Outing

After visiting the cemetary in Smithfield, UT, we stopped at a restaurant in Logan called The Bluebird. I guess it's been there for a LONG time; it was more of an "experience" to eat there than getting really good food. The food wasn't bad; just not a place I would go all the time.

I can't remember if this was going in or coming out!*S*

I don't know if you can really tell by this photo, the kind of atmosphere inside. It's dark paneling(real wood) with a kind of "soda parlor" feel towards the front of the restaurant. There is even a candy counter right before the cash register on the way out; convenient for the restaurant. I'm sure they make a little extra money that way.

On the way out of Logan we drove up to the Logan Temple to take a photo. It's a beautiful temple.

I have to say that it's really interesting to ride with Wayne to Smithfield. He took us around the town and showed us where William first lived when they arrived there and then where his homestead was. Wayne has put alot of hours into this project and we really appreciate him for that.

Funny little story

We walked up to William's grave and saw his 2 wives' graves on either side of his(okay he was a polygamist when it was still legal). There were flowers throughout the cemetary because it was Memorial Day and quite a few people at the cemetary despite the small town of Smithfield.

Mary Clark Ainscough's grave had 2 pots of flowers and there were none on William's
nor his other wife(can't remember her name).

So, MaryLou picked up one of the pots from Mary Clark's and placed it next to William's headstone.

So when we left, William's grave looked nicer with the flowers. *S*

Memorial Day Outing

On Memorial Day, Kent and I were in Kaysville, UT at Wayne & MaryLou's house so we rode along with them up to Smithfield, UT to visit the cemetary where William Ainscough is buried; Wayne made a promise to William that he would finish or at least really update his life story. So we went up so Wayne could leave a copy of it by William's headstone. Smithfield is right outside of Logan, UT. On the way through Logan, we stopped at this McDonald's for a drink. I thought it was interesting.

The cemetary in Smithfield is really pretty. It was a rainy day so perfect for taking photos.

MaryLou and Myself; it was chilly!

The book at the bottom of William's headstone is the history that Wayne researched and wrote. I thought it was really nice of Wayne to leave it there. I wonder who got it and read it?

A quick snapshot of Kent and Wayne

It was a really nice day.
